Baaaahahahaha, this one makes me giggle every time I think about it! Near my house there is a street called Dairyfarm Terrace and one day I had this bright spark of an idea for a yarn bomb on the street pole and it cracked me up right from the start! "Dairyfarm" heh heh heh can you guess what I did!?
I giggled my way through making it and I giggled my way through stitching it to the pole. I hope you all share my sense of humour and find this Udderly Hilarious too!!!

There's a house for sale and a house for rent down that street LOL do you think it will put prospective residence off!?

I snuck out on the first night after daylight savings ended when it was dark by 6:30, to sew this to the pole. At first whenever a car came past I was pretending I wasn't doin' nuffin' and walked up the path a little but then I couldn't be bothered hiding anymore. A man was walking his dog and walked past on the other side of the street. It was dark but I glanced up and saw him rubber necking at me and I tried hard not to burst into laughter! Then he walked into the next house but I could hear movement out the front like he was watching from a distance. Ha! must have been wondering what on earth I was doing!
When I finished sewing it up, I literally laughed out loud as I walked across the road and back home. I couldn't help it! :P

It's sewed up good and propper to that pole! I made it so that it would fit really snugly and stay up the pole. I also sewed some of the spots to overlap the join so that when I stiched it on, they covered the join, making it even more difficult to get undone if anyone tried.
I toyed with the idea of hanging strands of white yarn from the teats to look like milk squirting out but decided that might be a little too much! Tee hee hee!
I didn't have a pattern for any of this, I just winged it. I made a love heart too as one of the spots, did you 'spot' it? :D

Let me know if this gave you a good giggle too!

Bombing a Retirement Village

My retired Mum and Dad do volunteer work at the retirement hostel where my Dad's nearly 90 year old Mother (My Grandmother) lives. My Dad is particularly good at gardening and the hostel had asked him to make a sensory garden for the dementia wing. He has been working very hard to complete it almost single-handedly and it includes plants of different colours, textures and fragrances. It also includes a gazebo which has some bright coloured art and sensory items inside it. My parents asked me to make some 'yarn bombs' to contribute, some bright and colourful pieces, possibly a mobile and gave me a deadline as there was to be an opening ceremony for the new garden.
I didn't get to go there and bomb it myself but I tagged my piece none the less and gave it to my parents to put up.

I'll firstly give credit to the blog where I got the idea for this particular piece:
http://willewopsie.blogspot.com.au/ There is no pattern but a picture. I googled to find similar patterns for the individual pieces.

Now to show you what on earth I am talking about, here it is hanging in my kitchen shortly after it was finished:

Here are the flowers and leaves as I was making them:

These were a lot of fun to make, I enjoyed making them. So pretty!

And here they are bombed in the sensory garden gazebo :)

Recognise these? Yes these STARS  are from my Youth Centre yarn bomb! Unfortunately when I went back a few days later, the stars were ripped off it and lying on the ground! So disappointing! I think I'd rather someone ripped them off and took them home rather than just needlessly destroying them! ...Anyway I collected them up again and put them on a chain and thought they would be better appreciated here at the hostel! :D

enjoy :D

OMG OMG OMG!!!! I am so excited about this one!! I am lucky enough to have been a part of Yarn Corner's recent project to Yarn bomb an entire film clip set for several songs of Gossling's new EP! An overview of the project from Yarn Corner is this:

We will be helping to yarn bomb a series of four videos culminating in the end which is a fifth video - a Gossling concert that will be streamed online. We also have the potential to have Gossling take the set around the country on her national tour.
I joined Yarn Corner when this project was in it's early stages and signed up to be a part of it. There were only a handful of parts left up for grabs and I wanted something small to begin with so I opted to make 5 rubber duckie 'jackets'. The ducks in jackets were intended to sit on the piano. Cool.
We had certain specific colours to work with. I went and bought the 5 little ducks and made jackets for them in different colours from the pallet, decorating each with a contrasting flower just for something different! It wasn't that easy to make a duck jacket!!! I looked at some patterns and tried and tried again but ended up half using a pattern and half inventing my own pattern but it worked!

My Duck Jumper Pattern:
(US terms, 8 ply yarn, 4mm hook)

Row 1: Chain 20 (keeping a slightly looser tension than normal to make working row 2 easier),
SS into first chain
Row 2: Chain 1, SC into each chain and join with a SS to beginning chain 1 stitch
Row 3: Chain 3, 2DC into each stitch, SS into beginning chain 3 stitch
Row 4: Chain 3, *2DC in first stitch, 1DC in next* repeat to end, SS into beginning chain 3 stitch
Row 5: Chain 3, 1DC in each stitch to end, SS into beginning chain 3 stitch
Row 6: Chain 3, 2DCtog to end, SS into beginning chain 3 stitch
Row 7: Chain 3, 1DC into each stitch to end, SS into beginning chain 3 stitch
Put the jumper on the duck with the join at the back, turn duck over to crochet last row whilst on the duck
Row 8: Chain 3 2DCtog to end. SS into beginning chain 3 stitch.

They quacked around at home for a while but then I took them to a Yarn Corner meet and passed them on to the group admins to bomb on the set!
I wasn't overly excited about it until the time started to get closer to the release of the first video...then I started to think, ooh, soon I'm gonna see my Duckies in a film clip! hehe

And here it is, Gossling - Wild Love, Live from Bakehouse Studios:

Here are some photos taken of the set as well.

How AWESOME is that piano!?
Can't wait for the other 3 songs, and you know what? My son Nazeem and I are Gossling's newest fans! I am loving the song and Nazeem keeps asking me to play it again! :D

week 12 - Birdie Bomb

Just incase you were worried, I AM still trying to continue the weekly yarn bombing but in a less ... compulsory fashion. I'd have been really annoyed if I got behind with it but this way, it doesn't matter so much if that makes any sense at all! :P
So anyways, when some of my previous yarn bombs were quickly removed or destroyed by unappreciative sorts, someone suggested, 'don't give up, just choose a more adoring audience' - KIDS! Just as well I am a childcare worker!!!!!!
I've had a yarn bomb planned for work for quite some time now. I wanted to put a bird in a nest with some eggs, in a tree outside in the Childcare Centre playground, but I was waiting for autumn when the trees would be relatively bare, making it easier for the kids to spot. ... I couldn't wait any longer so I bombed it inside instead! lol

The little birdie in it's nest has been sitting on my coffee table for a while, being enjoyed by my son, Nazeem. His teacher Ms Mel, was 'jealous' when I yarn bombed my boss' desk a few weeks ago, so this birds nest was always intended for her room and children. This Wednesday morning, when I dropped Nazeem at 'school,' Ms Mel wasn't there yet so I set up a table as an activity for the children, with plants and a branch for the nest to sit on. And here it is :D
And I left a cheeky note for Ms Mel too!

For those interested in the birdie pattern, here it is. This is the first amigurumi pattern I have attempted and it was surprisingly easy :)

P.S. I have now had requests to yarn bomb other rooms of the centre. Hehe... Does it count if someone asks you to do it? Is is still technically a yarn bomb? I guess it is if it's a surprise as to what and when it will be. But at least I will know this birdie will be appreciated and not destroyed...or rather if destroyed it will be the result of being loved to death! ;)

Week 11 - Flower Bomb

This is the first post of a redefined blog. I am quitting my 52 week yarn bomb challenge while I am ahead. While I have been keeping up so far (just) I know I won't be able to keep it up for too much longer as I also like to make things for others and I'm finding it difficult to do it all. And life is also about to get hectic at home as we jump on the IVF roller coaster again.
So, although it will not necessarily be a one-a-week affair anymore, I will still post regularly of my yarn bombing adventures! :D

This weekend was a long weekend and before heading into the city with my family, I picked up a big rose I had recently crocheted, to leave in the city somewhere. I also took with me some green yarn to make leaves and a band for it in the car on the way. I made the band standard pole size (19cm) with the plan to put it on a pole somewhere. 'I'll know it when I see it,' I thought...

We were headed for Moomba but when we got to the city, the parking situation was horrendous and we finally found a park about 3kms away from the festival. However we found ourselves outside the Royal Botanic Gardens so we decided to go there instead as it was a lovely day and all we really wanted was a day out so it didn't matter. It was much more peaceful anyway and Nazeem had the freedom to run around.

First stop, the Children's Garden within the Botanic Gardens. I looked around for places I might plant my bomb...there weren't many poles in the garden and certainly not any the right size. I thought about putting it on a rung on the back of a park bench but hadn't yet found the 'right' place when we climbed up a mini treetop walk in the children's garden. Up there we were standing amoung the tops of giant bamboo and there on a bamboo pole at eye level I knew I'd found the right spot.

from below

What better place to put a flower than in a garden and a children's sensory garden at that!

week 10 - Bunting Bomb

I'm gonna skip most of the story this time but the pictures are the important part anyway right???? :D

So on the main road near my place, some road work is about to begin and the road has been lined with flouro orange buntings. I noticed that many of the flags are missing and there followed the idea of replacing a few of them with crocheted ones! :P
To go with the flouro theme yet stand out, I went with flouro green! hehe
I made 3 (coz I love odd numbers) in different designs.

On Sunday morning, Nazeem woke earlier than usual and when we go up I thought it the perfect time to go and install the flags. So we drove to the spot and Nazeem in his pyjamas watched from the car as I stitched the flags on. It was a beautiful sunny morning and it was very quiet out. This time I looked up at cars going past just to see if anyone was watching because I normally make myself the only person on the planet but I tried something different this time and you know what? Not many actually noticed I was doing something out of the ordinary. Ha, funny how we expect that everyone must be staring and it's not necessarily the case.

Here they are:

I'm not sure why I didn't take a photo from the other side, I hung them so that the right side was facing the road not the footpath. Perhaps I should have done it the other way but never mind.

Here are the patterns I used for those interested
granny buntingbaby bunting.

I challenged my neighbour to spot my latest yarn bomb before I posted a pic. The next day she found it and was very pleased with herself LOL

Week 9 - Bombing Youth Info Centre

While we were away I crocheted some hours away, making colourful striped pieces out of my scrap yarn. I had something in particular in mind for them so I made them a certain width...

When I yarn bombed the Library last month, I noticed a spring-looking bike rack out the front and at the time thought, 'oooh, that would be a good one to yarn bomb!' but I had already created my piece for the tree so I didn't think anything more of it. Another time when running errands in my home town, I walked past a Youth Info Centre and it had the very same style of bike rack out the front! And what a great place to yarn bomb - a Youth Centre, a yarn bomb would surely make someone smile here!
I added this to the 'To Bomb' List in my mind but didn't really plan anything in particular 'til now.

I've been feeling I should do a slightly bigger project than I have been doing....It was time....and besides that, I've been inspired by some amazingly talented ladies of Yarn Corner.

I made 4 different panels for this piece, finishing them today and stitching them together.

I like the randomness of one colour ending and another one starting. This is intentional and is the result of me using up scrap yarn as mentioned earlier. I also experimented with pattern, making some rows of shells to funk it up! :P
.....
After sewing my pieces together, I wondered how I could make it a bit more 3D and tactile. I had some bright coloured stars that I had crocheted a few weeks back, 6 of them, and had no particular use for them. They would look great hanging from this piece! :D

It was getting dark and I wanted this installed today because I've been lagging a bit behind with my yarn bombing challenge lately and I wanted to get ahead again. I jumped in the car and headed out, under the cover of twilight ;)
There were more people out than I thought there would be and I think I turned up right when the library was closing for the night. (The youth centre is a few doors down from the library) So plenty of people were about. But not too close to me so I just put myself in my own little world and began sewing my piece to the bike rack.
It occurred to me after I'd already left the house that I'd need something to pin it up with but I'd forgotten to bring anything. 'Ah well, I'll just wing it,' I thought, and I did. I found some twigs on the ground and used them to hold the edges together. It felt great using nature to help me! :D
I think it took me about 20 minutes to sew the whole thing up. I was kneeling on concrete and my knees were hurting. I was pretty impressed with how it was turning out (except it was a bit looser than I would have liked)
It was almost fully dark by the time I finished and I couldn't even see anything in the viewfinder of my camera. I had to just snap with the flash on and hope for the best.
almost done...

The photos are a bit blurry so I will go back tomorrow and get some better shots in the daylight......
And here they are (1/3/12)

I also added my little trademark leftover yarn bow....on the entrance door handle! :P cheeky!

For Michelle T and anyone else interested, here is a pattern for these stars! Enjoy! x x

Week 8: Bombing the Beach

This week, I finally got my tags printed and laminated so now I can tag my work! Wooot! So, I made this week's piece using the colours of my tag and blog to kick start my tagging. :D
I started making a random granny square using just the colours, without too much planning in mind for what it would become and where it would end up. I Double Crocheted (US terms) a round of each colour. I got to the purple and thought it needed more of the blue, so I added 3 more rounds of the blue and Ooooooooooh, I could do an orange scalloped edge with a red Single Crochet finish!

We went away for the weekend to stay in Blairgowrie.
Blairgowrie is located on a thin strip of the Mornington Peninsula, facing Port Phillip Bay in the north and Bass Strait in the south, nestled between the popular beach resorts of Rye and Sorrento. (http://www.travelvictoria.com.au/blairgowrie/)
... A friend loaned us a holiday house there, to stay in for a few nights. On the way there (an hour drive) I finished off the piece and proudly attached the tag. :)

Yesterday on the way home, I informed my Hubby. "We have to stop somewhere so I can put this up, I have to leave this here in Blairgowrie." I was thinking of a pole, not too thin but not too fat and crisscrossing the yarn around the back to attach it. I wanted to put it near the shops somewhere but unfortunately it was wherever dear husband felt like stopping the car. :P Not too far down the road from the beach house, he spotted some 1/2 height wooden poles just the right thickness for my bomb and pulled over. "Why not!?" I said and jumped out of the car, needle and LONG thread already attached to the piece.
The awesome thing is, that because I wasn't alone this time, I now have photos of me installing it! :D
Kamran snapped the photos and said to Nazeem (3) in the backseat, "Mummy's a hippy Nazeem." lol

Excuse the ridiculous attire! I don't usually wear leggings with short tops! lol. I was dressed comfy for the trip home, and forgot that I'd be getting out of the car for this! :P But here I am stringing it up!

Cars were driving past left, right and center but I realised yarn bombing had become normal for me and no longer had an adrenaline rush attached. Still fun none the less! I heard Kamran turn the car off at some point too, must have been taking too long. Hehehe.
Before I was done, I went back to the car for my scissors to cut off the excess yarn. I then brought the scissors back to the car and said to Kamran. "One minute, I just have to tie the extra yarn somewhere...It's sort of become my trademark." I hadn't thought about it before that moment but I'd done it once before and it just seemed right!
There! Done! See how it compliments the tag!? ;)

Guess who else is becoming used to my yarn bombing? My son. "Wow Mummy, So beautiful," he said when I got back in the car. :D
